Caring for your jewellery is imperative in keeping your pieces shiny and nice. Read more here about how to care for your jewellery.
We recommend treating your jewellery with care ensuring it will look good after extended use. A good rule to live by is that jewellery should be the last thing you put on in the morning and the first thing you take off in the evening. Put on make-up and perfume before the jewellery and avoid swimming, showering or sleeping with it. Rings should be removed before washing hands, or before using products containing alcohol like anti-bacterial gels and wipes.
Due to their alloys, even precious metals such as gold and silver can oxidise over time, causing the surface of the jewellery to tarnish. The good news is that this can be polished off to restore shine. To remove tarnish, we recommend treating the jewellery with a jewellery cleaner according to the polish manufacturer’s instructions. To keep the stones clean, we recommend descaling them occasionally and brushing around the stone with detergent and a soft brush.
We do not reccommend using an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner.
Storing your jewellery correctly is also an essential part of keeping it shiny and free of scratches. Store your pieces separately, in a dark, dry place, preferably in their boxes.
Butterfly backs are mechanical backs which use a butterfly-shaped metal piece with two curls that grip the earring post to hold the earring securely in place. Butterfly backs work by using the friction between the two curved “wings” of the butterfly and the earring post. The back slides onto the earring post, and the tension of the curls keeps it in place. After repeated use, the backs can appear loose and not as secure as before. This is easily remedied by pinching the “wings” gently back together with your fingers.
